eva, tour tip for bikers No. 2

The sweat is dripping on the dusty horizontal tube of my mountainbike. I am working my way up the mountain one metre at a time, enjoying the increasingly strenuous crank revolutions. I'm in the here and now...

Pure adventure

I have bags of energy at my disposal, mainly because I enjoyed a wellness breakfast this sunny morning: fragrant wholemeal bread, tasty spreads, a freshly-pressed "vitamin booster", and a bowl of crunchy muesli supplied my calves with sufficient power for my mountain adventures. I am slowly approaching the tree line. A short glance to the right reveals a truly breathtaking view of the landscape. The mountains are stacking up in front of me. The glaciated giants overlook the setting from the background. On the other side, I can see the Glemmtal and Saalbach Hinterglemm, the location of the "bike'n soul hotel" eva,VILLAGE, my homebase for such adventures. Cool guided tours, biking rations, laundry services, rental bikes, bike garage, etc. - the eva,VILLAGE allows me to focus my attention on what really matters: epic trails in the Alps!

"Hackelberg Trail" over the "Schattberg"

Today, we have an excellent tour tip for you. However, this tour requires you to cover an altitude difference of more than 1,000 metres before you get to enjoy the exciting descent.
Following an energy-laden breakfast in the "bike'n soul hotel" eva,VILLAGE, you mount your bicycle and cycle along the promenade towards "Jausern", a small district of Saalbach. Those who strive to add more altitude to their record, should check out the "Sonnseitpromenade". Once you've arrived in "Jausern", bear right in the direction of "Jausenstation Rammern". Now you really can't go wrong anymore. With a slight gradient, the forest path leads through the woods and the serpentines escort you and your bike to lofty heights. Far above the tree line, one can finally spot the summit station of the "Schattberg X-Press". This is where it gets really steep. I need to rest my upper body on the bike in order to avoid falling off backwards. A few more revolutions and I've made it, at least the first and most diffcult hurdle. In the distance, I can see the western summit, the finish line.

A few metres further up, my bike passes through the entrance to the "Hacklberg Trail". The natural trail allows you to storm towards the "Hacklbergeralm", the perfect spot for a rustic mid-tour snack. Since last year, the trail continues past the managed hut. The so-called "Hacklberg Trail 2.0" boasts close corners, Northshore elements, and a lot of "flow". There are bags of fun to be had here. At the middle station of the "Westgipfelbahn" the trail merges with the "Buchegg Trail". In 2015, the lower part of the "Buchegg Trail" was re-routed completely. One can now enjoy now less than 1,000 metres altitude difference on these fine trails.

Content and with a smile on your face, you can head off in the direction of Saalbach and the eva,VILLAGE. At the eva,ALM, you can enjoy a proper Austrian snack to recharge the batteries. Or maybe you'd prefer something sweet? The best "Kaiserschmarrn" in the valley can be quite tempting. Naturally, you wouldn't want to miss out on the obligatory "beer after" either.
